Originally, Le Dobry kenne started off as a Dobermann kennel. In the period of 1975 – 2000 it was very successful in sport as in confirmation shows. Our dogs acquired different national and international certificates. They stood first in many working competitions and Dutch Championships. To us one occasion was most memorable and satisfying. In 1995 during World Championship in Checz Republic our kennel was represented with no less than 5 dogs!!!!

In 1998 was the prohibition of docking the tail and cropping the ears a fact. Due to this we transferred our breeding program to France where we bred under the name of “Dobry de Bois du Liers”. Our dogs were exported from France to Holland. In 1996 there was a ban on import of cropped dogs. To be more precise, cropped dogs were not allowed to take part in working and confirmation contests. This meant the end of the Doberman chapter for us since we prefer to work with our dogs. Many Doberman lovers were disappointed.

Some of our well-known dogs were:

Candy v. ‘t Smeulveen
Stammoeder: Tanja v.d. Kunnemaborgh
Hertog Alpha v. Le Dobry
Gringo vom Frankenhorst
Hertogin Mariss v. Le Dobry
Edzar Dobry du Bois de Liers
Gaby Dobry du Bois de Liers

We had a lot of pleasure with these dogs because they possessed both beauty and character, hence our slogan:

WHERE CHARACTER AND BEAUTY GO TOGETHER

30 years a dog trainer but even longer a dog lover . One has to love them and have a bond with them but above all, one must be consequent. In these 30 years we had many great dogs, both self bred of acquired. In the beginning with Dobermans and now with Dutch Shepherd.

Since 1997 we have Dutch shepherds. Our first dog was Holland v/d Vastenow, bred by Mr. Jos Graeve.

To breed Dutch shepherds with excellant character combined with beauty, just as we did in the past with Le Dobry Dobermann's. Also we aim to bring the Dutch shepherd shortcoat to an acceptable level in the dogsport. That is to say, to such a level that this pure Dutch-bred breed can compete with Belgian, French and German working dog breeds, both nationaly and internationally.

We will be looking for serious people which would be willing to breed with their dogs or place them out for breeding purposes. Should the dog be less suitable for dogsport, these people would be willing to keep the dog as a housepet. In this manner we can monitor precisely development of the breed. To be completely clear on this issue, our goal is to improve the breed, not to merely expand it in numbers.

In order to accomplish the latter mentioned the following points should be taken into consideration:

a. Dogs suitable for breeding:
The dogs which are to be used for breeding must match up to a number of demands concerning the standard, health and character of the breed.

Breeding female:
In our opinion the female is more important for the progeny than the male. Therefore we try to use females which possess a stable and social character. One of the conditions is that the dog should be well built combined with the qualities which we want in a working dog such as:

courage
good protection drive
temperament
fetch drive/pray drive
tracking drive
willingness to comply
high pain tolerance

Breeding studs:
The same demands as for females, if the studdog has proven that he passes on his dominant genes regarding character and exterior. In such case, the stud can be used with a female of lesser quality.

To conclude, the foundation must be present, both male and female must possess hereditary qualities. These qualitities must be suitable for training. Shoud it be necessary the dogs can undergo a breeding test.
